an open space for around 1500 people ?

I am preparing a proposal for an OST meeting for 750, so let me piggy-back
on Toke's question to ask:

Logistically, how does one deal with the fact that a single discussion group
could potentially attract a few hundred people?  Are giant rooms and
microphones required for breakout sessions?
