4-H Camp and Open SpaceHi Chris.
Truly amazing what you and your community achived. I wish you the best luck
on the future journey of the 4-H Camp.
If the camp is not to far from Raleigh, I´d love to visit you there when I
come to NC in September.
Thomas

  Dear OSLIST,

Last week I shared the story of the 4-H Camp here in the North Carolina
Mountains. I thank my friends and colleagues on the list for your strong
words of support, your contributions, and your prayers. Here is a copy of
this morning's message to the camp supporters in our community. On June
17th we will hold our first arts & heritage camp, in 5 days of Open Space
for 8-to-12 year olds. You'll hear about it.

  Love,
  Chris

    Dear 4-H Camp Supporters,

Monday's mail took us over the top. Today I will be mailing to Sharon
Rowland (director of the 4-H Development Fund) over $22,000. The Dogwood
Foundation's challenge grant will soon follow, for a total of $39,000 in
contributions from our community, all generated in less than three weeks.

One amazing thing about this story is that I did not crack any whip, or
push, or even nudge anyone to try to make this happen! Here's what I did:
I expressed my deeply-held belief in the importance of the camp. I invited
you to share why you care: your stories from the past and your visions for
the future. I invited you to help in whatever way seemed right. And I held
the camp in my prayers, for the highest good of all. That's it.

Now I invite you to a party to celebrate. On Saturday, June 23rd, we'll
serve dinner and have dancing and fun stuff for the kids. Mark your
calendars - details to follow soon.

    Also coming later this week:

a.. I will be replacing this email group list with an interactive
listserv for ongoing camp supporters, which each of you is invited to join
(I won't sign anyone up - you can register if you wish)
b.. An update on the camp schedule for the summer and fall
c.. An invitation to serve on the new camp Advisory Council
d.. Flexible opportunities for educators, artists, and mentors to work
at the camp this summer, along with other staff openings

Please contact me about any opportunities or questions you have about
how the camp can serve you.

My deepest thanks and congratulations to you all. What an honor it has
been to be a part of this community effort! Now comes the challenge and the
thrill of bringing the dream to life.

    Blessings,
    Chris
