My story of the Open Space Organization Part 2 of 4

Dear Birgitt,

I am very much impressed by the story you tell us here. But I also have
some thoughts and questions:

First, I want to know why you speak about a "shift" when talking about
the change in the organisation when becoming an OS organisation. For
some reason I do not believe it's a shift but it rather seems to me that
it is some kind of growth, of development, of differentiation. Is the
new behavior just different from the old one - then I would understand
the term "shift". Or is this different behavior some kind of "organized
in a superior way" - then "growth" or "evolution" (or some kind like
that) I would better understand than "shift".

Second, it seems to me as if this "higher level" behavior of the
organisation was mainly set up, initiated and maintained by your own
effort and energy - and your ability to "hold the space". So for me this
holding of space seems to support, enable, encourage, or empower this
organisation (i.e. the people working there) to develop a superior level
of social behavior. So you - in the role of the CEO - behave like a real
empowerer. Could you agree to this view?
(Therefore I'm not surprised that the organisation did not continue to
behave like an OS-organisation, when its main "spaceholder" (CEO) was
not able to hold the amount of space that would have been necessary to
keep up this higher level behavior. It's like changing the type of wood
in the midst of a tree's main root.)

Looking foreward to part three of your OS organisation stories :-)

Nino

Greetings from Brighton, England.

OT19 Dawlish, UK, starts at 1500 on Sunday 28 January and continues until
lunchtime on Tuesday 30 January. These are UK times.

The agenda building session starts at 1700 on Sunday and the list of Open
Space sessions will be posted at:

www.martinleith.com/ot19

You are invited to read the reports as they are posted (follow the links
from the main page) and contribute to the discussions by sending an email to
martinleith at theinnovationagency.com with OT19 POSTING in the subject line. I
will do my best to add your contribution to the website as soon after
receiving it as possible.

The theme of OT19 Dawlish is, simply, organisation transformation, so this
should provide a lot of scope!

Please do make the most of this oportunity to be part of OT19 Dawlish.

A second OT19 will be held in the UK late in May - see
www.martinleith.com/ot/ot19grimstone.html for more information.

With my very best wishes,

Martin

hello everyone...

two pieces of news here, having just finished updating the worldwide
open space website.

first, complete details for OT-19 are now posted online at
<http://www.openspaceworld.org/OT19>. hope you'll check it out and join
us in Pawling, NY this July, 2-6.

second, have also just finished upgrading the website. the main home
page now offers a choice of beginning in six languages!
<http://www.openspaceworld.org> many thanks to the translators. must
admit though, that we still need a small bit of translating by a german
speaker (homepage text) and that we don't yet have any spanish on the
site. any takers? if so, email me directly.

best for now, michael
