Dear OSLIST:

Building on Christopher Schmees' post this morning, I wonder if we could not
try to respond more frequently "off-list" (not hard to do) when messages
such as responses to requests for assistance etc. are intended for one
person?

Also, I sense that there is a shift happening in the usage of the list.  My
sense is that it is evolving from a place to share experience and stories,
ask questions, improve one's knowledge of and celebrate OST (in other words
a community of interest and practice); to a place increasingly dedicated to
advertising and promotion (of training etc.), and personal messages (see
above).  Is this what we collectively want? Or maybe it's just a passing
phase?

By way of contrast, I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the feedback and
energized discussion arising out of Chris Weaver's recent probe regarding
OST and Playback. Right on!

Perhaps if, when we are about to send a message to the list, we checked
first (with ourselves) as to whether it should, really,  be addressed "Dear
(Joe, Jane etc.)" or "Dear OSLIST", we would be well guided...

What say you?
