Hi--

Thought everybody on the list might like a report on what happened yesterday
in Mishawaka, Indiana, when the folks on the Heart of America Bus Tour spent
the day here:

Heart of America

I am tired.
It is a wonderful tired.

I did nothing:
Merely gave directions
Helped set out paints
Introduce
Serve meals
To help others who were doing the good.

They did nothing extraordinary:
They let children paint their hearts,
They answered deep questions
Like, "How did you break your arm?"

They did nothing extraordinary:
They sat tired and talked with grandmothers and grandfathers
About deep things,
Like ugly comforters
And why he had a tear in his eye whenever he spoke of his wife, gone but a
few weeks.

They did nothing extraordinary:
Just cooked chili for firefighters
And traded fire department tee shirts with them.

They did nothing extraordinary:
Only everything they promised.

The people did it all:
They did the extraordinary
Great gifts were exchanged.

And so we are all tired.
It is a wonderful tired.

Alana Karan, and Allen aboard the Heart of America Bus Tour in Mishawaka,
