OS and AI

Chris--
I have experience with Open Space, as a participant and facilitator, over the
last ten years. My experience using Appreciative Inquiry is new--I've done
it once, with our Siberian guests a couple of weeks ago.
My observation: After two weeks of experiences and presentations (lots of
learning opportunities on an input model), AI worked very well to bring the
subject to a very personal level and to encourage a deeper level of
conversation.
In the following three half-days in OS, the group was self-managing, deeply
involved in passionate conversation, hard at work on how to take what they
had seen and heard back home--and maybe they would have done the same had we
started directly with OS. In this instance, AI seemed to make a good bridge
between two very different modes of working.
And, like many others, my first choice is usually to go with the
least-structured method and watch what happens. My experience is that what
happens is wonderful.
Joelle
