OSLIST Glitch?

Pat, here's how the lists have been set up. All messages posted to LISTSERV show up on Egroups. All messages posted to Egroups are posted to LISTSERV -- but you have to check the messages at the Egroups website; this has been done to avoid your receiving two copies of every posting (one from each list, since the lists have been set up for cross posting). OSLIST is set up to reject duplicate postings, but each of these rejections sends an error message to me, and that's a needless wastage of bandwidth.

My guess is that Esther's message may have been sent privately to Martin, and Martin may be checking only his messages from Listserv.

Until the OSLIST community decides as a whole to move to Egroups (or some other forum), I suggest you post all messages to LISTSERV rather than Egroups -- anyone monitoring Egroups will be able to read Listserv messages there too.

Murli, I wonder if the automatic cross-listing that you set up between the two versions of the OSLIST is working properly. I replied to a message from Martin Leith (subject "American Terms") about the meaning of "redux" on July 6th, sending my reply to the eGroups list. The message has appeared on that list, but I didn't get a copy sent to me from the old list. And today, Martin replied (subject "redux") to a message from Esther thanking her for explaining the term to him. I'm not sure which Esther he was replying to because I haven't seen her message. I looked on eGroups and it isn't there, and I haven't been emailed a copy from the old list -- though I DID get a copy of Martin's message sent from the old list. Martin didn't acknowledge my response, but I don't know if that means he didn't receive it.

Not sure exactly what's happening, but some messages seem to be slipping between the cracks.
